Vetreria Artistica F.R. produce artistic stained glass also in big dimensions, mirrors, decorated doors, tables, mosaics, accessories using the old technique of lead came and copper foil glassworks.
The process:
- We draw a sketch, coloured and in small-scale, based on the client’s request, a project or after a on-site investigation.
- Following the client's approval, a full-scale sketch is made on paperboard and traced on tracing paper. Then we cut the glass with a double blade that will allow the lead structure to be built.. Next we chose the colours for the glass guided by the sketch.
- The glass is scored with a Widia wheel, an alloy that have replaced diamond in glass cutting and that allows faster and cleaner work.
- Then we proceed with the lead work, soldering at the joints between strips with a lead/tin solder.
- If the window requires painting, the specific glass will be placed and fixed with wax against a thick transparent glass mounted on a vertical frame that is positioned to work with natural sun-light. Then the painting stage begins, with the grisaille technique, a powder that is painted on the glass and fixed on it in a furnace at 700°C.
